Sorry Giotto 9/12

Enzo Catellani
2012
The luminaires from the Sorry Giotto collection are true light sculptures. The collection is named after Giotto di Bondone, a famous 13th-century Italian painter and architect, often considered a precursor of the Italian Renaissance, known for drawing a perfect circle freehand for an emissary of Pope Benedict IX. The creator, Enzo Catellani, explains: “I wanted to bring one of the simplest and most essential shapes to life: the circle. I tried to do so by creating a minimally ‘intrusive’ lamp, and when I turned it on, its name came to me spontaneously: Sorry Giotto.” Like a ring floating in the air, the Sorry Giotto 9 or 12 (depending on whether the luminous circle diameter is 90 or 120 cm) invites contemplation: a superb light when on, a work of art when off. Floor lamp or pendant? The luminous circle is fixed to the ceiling with two fine wires and stabilized on the floor by a wire connected to a beautiful anvil. Power is supplied via the bottom wire, which connects to an electrical outlet with a switch to adjust the light intensity. This luminaire can therefore be installed almost anywhere. The luminous circle is made of copper and hand-painted in a stunning, vivid deep blue. The LED light source is placed on the back of this ring and emits a warm white light. Energy class A to A+++. Made in Italy.
