The AA armchair is a reissue of the original version created in 1938 by Catalan architect Antoni Bonet and Argentinians Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, former collaborators of Le Corbusier. The success was immediate, as by 1940, their creation was included in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. After Artek-Pascoe and Knoll, the French publisher Airborne continues the legacy of this design classic today. Originally called the “BFK” armchair, Airborne renamed it in the 1950s to “AA armchair,” in reference to “Architecture d’Aujourd’hui,” the oldest architecture magazine in France. In addition to the original leather covers, new fabrics have been introduced with the signature central white stitching that has become the brand’s emblem: linen, cotton, as well as technical fabrics like Batyline, expanding the available color palette and offering materials suitable for outdoor use. To date, more than 61 different models are available to dress the AA© armchair! The range of slightly grained and patinated leather covers, called BUFFALO, offers a slightly softer comfort than the classic “smooth leather” model. The structure can be finished in matte black thermolacquered steel or in stainless steel (marine grade 316L).
