The AA armchair is a reissue of the original version created in 1938 by Catalan architect Antoni Bonet and Argentinians Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, former collaborators of Le Corbusier. The success was immediate, as by 1940, their creation was included in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. After Artek-Pascoe and Knoll, the French publisher Airborne continues the success of this design classic today. Originally called the “BFK” chair, Airborne renamed it in the 1950s to “Fauteuil AA,” referring to “Architecture d’Aujourd’hui,” the oldest architecture magazine in France. In addition to the original leather covers, new fabrics with the famous central white stitching, which would become the brand’s emblem, have been introduced: linen, cotton, and technical fabrics such as batyline, expanding the available color palette and offering fabrics suitable for outdoor use.
